Do you like Ghibli anime? You should go to the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. It’s close to the heart of Tokyo, easy to get to, and is connected to the big, beautiful Inokashira Park. It’s about a 10 minute walk from Mitaka station, but you can also take the bus. It’s convenient to take the bus on rainy days.
First, Totoro awaits you at the fake entrance.
It’s like being completely in the world of Ghibli.
You can also watch a 15-minute original film exclusive to the museum. There are no subtitles but you can understand the film by the images alone even if you don’t know Japanese.
This year they have a special exhibition of The Boy and the Heron.
There is also a small restaurant in the museum.
There are interesting original animation cells, and you can get a good understanding of how they made the films. It’s too bad that they don’t allow taking pictures inside of the museum, so we can’t show you what it looks like.
Even if you are not a diehard Ghibli fan, we recommend you check it out!
After enjoying the Ghibli Museum, it’s great to explore the big Inokashira Park, which is connected.
The park is beautiful during all four seasons.
Many Japanese TV dramas are filmed here.
From the park, you can go to Kichijoji station. There are many restaurants and shops, and it is a lively and fashionable area.
