Edo Kiriko is a Japanese traditional craft, which has its origins in the Edo era (mid 19th century). It is specifically an Edo (the old name for Tokyo) craft, and is still made in Tokyo to this day. Let’s try making Edo Kiriko in Asakusa! Edo faceted glass patterns are created by skillfully combining plants such as chrysanthemums and hemp leaves, which have been handed down as traditional patterns, and patterns based on designs of Edo period daily utensils such as baskets and lattices.
You can choose your preference of glass with different sizes, colors, and shapes.
First, you can practice cutting on a glass with a safe, multi-faceted machine blade.
After that, you can choose which cut design you want.
By following the instructor’s advice, you then cut and engrave the design on the glass you chose.
After you’ve finished, you can take a picture of the beautiful glass you’ve just made. It is a one-of-a-kind unique piece that you’ve made.
